The living hall of the Meda features inscribed verses by N. Kumaranashan, one of the pioneering poets of modern Malayalam literature. Known as the harbinger of the Romantic era in Malayalam poetry, Ashan is considered alongside Ulloor and Vallathol as part of the modern “poetic triumvirate” of Kerala. Revered as both a philosopher and a poet of love, his profound and thought-provoking verses have earned him titles such as Aashayagambheeran (Visionary Thinker) and Snehagayakan (Poet of Love). The inclusion of Kumaranashan’s verses in the Meda’s living hall adds immeasurable cultural and literary wealth to the structure. These lines are inscribed beneath an arch bearing the name of Kochu Kunju Channar, with the year the Meda was constructed. As the Meda undergoes restoration, there is hope and expectation that this tradition will continue, ensuring Ashan’s verses remain a part of its legacy, enriching its ambiance and historical significance for future generations.
