അന്നേ വരെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ പിന്തുടർന്ന് വന്നിരുന്ന ‘മരുമക്കത്തായം’ വിട്ടു കൊച്ചുകുഞ്ഞു ചാന്നാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ സ്വത്തുവകകൾ എല്ലാം തന്നെ മക്കൾക്ക് കൊടുക്കണം എന്ന് വിപ്ലവകരമായിട്ടുള്ളൊരു തീരുമാനം എടുക്കുകയായിരുന്നു .വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ അനന്തിരവർക്ക് കടുത്ത വിരോധവും പകയുമുണ്ടായി. എന്നാൽ കൊച്ചുകുഞ്ഞു ചാന്നാരെ നേരിട്ട് എതിർക്കാൻ അവർക്കു ഭയമായിരുന്നു. 1921-ൽ അവർ സംഘം ചേർന്ന് ഒരു അർദ്ധരാത്രിയിൽ ഉറക്കത്തിലായിരുന്ന കൊച്ചുകുഞ്ഞു ചാന്നാരെ വെട്ടി കൊലപ്പെടുത്തി. ശ്രീമൂലം തിരുന്നാൾ രാജാവിൻ്റെ ഉറ്റ സുഹൃത്തായ കൊച്ചുകുഞ്ഞു ചാന്നാരുടെ കൊലപാതകം അന്ന് തിരുവിതാംകൂറിൽ വലിയൊരു കോളിളക്കം തന്നെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു .തുടർന്ന് രാജാവ് പ്രതികളെ ഉടനെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യാൻ ഉത്തരവിടുകയും ചാന്നാരുടെ അനന്തിരവന്മാരായ മാധവനും ശ്രീധരനും സഹായികളും ഉടൻ തന്നെ പിടിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു . അനന്തിരവരിൽ ശ്രീധരൻ ചാന്നാർ കുറ്റം ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകയും വധശിക്ഷയ്ക്കു വിധേയനാവുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1940 കളിൽ അവസാന കാരണവരായ കൊച്ചു കൃഷ്ണൻ ചാന്നാർ കുടുംബത്തിൻ്റെ സ്വത്തുവകകൾ പിൻഗാമികൾക്ക് വീതിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു.
Kochukunchu Channar made a revolutionary decision to break away from the matrilineal inheritance system, known as Marumakkathayam, which had been followed in his family for generations. He chose to distribute all his property to his children. This decision provoked intense resentment and hostility from his relatives, but they were too afraid to confront him directly. In 1921, a group of his relatives conspired and murdered Kochukunchu Channar by hacking him to death while he was asleep at midnight. His murder, especially as he was a close friend of King Sreemoolam Thirunal, caused a great uproar in Travancore. Following this, the king ordered the immediate arrest of the culprits. Madhavan, Sreedharan, and their accomplices, all relatives of Kochukunchu Channar, were soon apprehended. Sreedharan Channar took responsibility for the crime and was sentenced to death. In the 1940s, Kochu Krishnan Channar, the last surviving head of the family, distributed the remaining family properties to the heirs
